My job as an Artist

Living as an artist requires a certain amount of resiliency.  What to paint?  I have been fascinated by the beauty of sunrise and sunset for many years and yet, I wonder sometimes if that is a rut that I need to get out of.  I look for other things that interest me.  Sometimes I think maybe I have an opportunity to make some kind of statement about the environment or social issues or politics but, no, I'm more interested in beauty.  Pure, unadulterated beauty.  It lifts me out of the news cycle and the temptation to get angry or depressed by what I perceive as "the world gone to hell in a hand basket."  Painting is an opportunity to refocus on what is alive and well in me, the recognition that life goes on, kindness is available to us all and beauty is right in front of us, if we choose to see it.

Katie, I SO agree with your thoughts about -hanging in there”, and using your Gifts as an Artist to show the World it IS amazing, it IS beautiful!! Your gifts remind me to appreciate the Beauty that is always right in front of me. P.S. other than a few -hand painted note cards” I haven't been painting much lately, BUT have been tending to our garden. New beauty every day!
